The City contracts with General Code to maintain an online version (eCode) of the TMC. The City Clerk’s Office holds official copies of all legislation and the code.
The Tacoma Municipal Code (TMC) is a compilation of the ordinances of the City of Tacoma that are “of a general, public, or permanent nature, or imposing a fine, penalty or forfeiture”.
Unless specifically addressed in an ordinance, changes to the TMC are effective ten days after the ordinance has been published in the City’s official newspaper (publishing typically takes place two days after an ordinance is passed).

The New Laws page of the City’s eCode lists amendments that are pending codification or that have delayed effective dates.
The Disposition List is chronological list of legislation that revised the code, from October 2025 to present. Reference documents from 2025 and earlier are available on the Public Documents area.
The TMC is also available to download from the eCode site at the Title, Chapter, Section, or Subsection level, using basic navigation and the toolbar.
